Bhongolethu Slamdunks for Women’s Rights

25 March 2014

Two selected Oudtshoorn basketball teams from  Bhongolethu Primary and High School and Fezekile High School MOD (Mass participation; Opportunity and access; Development and growth) Centre participated in the Women’s Rights Basketball Tournament at the University of Cape Town (UCT) on 21 and 22 March 2014. The Under-16 team received a silver medal and the Under-14 team came fourth.

Basketball Curriculum Developer Masi Ntlali said: “This was the first time that the learners have played against other teams and that they have seen facilities like the one at UCT, so I think that they have coped well under the circumstances.”

Abusiswe Blom and Robencia Jansen were included in the five person All-Star team in the Under-16 age group, while Sinazo Sebenza was selected in the Under-14 category. “This is a good indication of the progress that learners are making through the assistance of the programme,” said Ntlali.
