Arts and Culture Focus Schools Workshop in Cape Town

19 March 2014

Eight high schools from around the Cape Metropole will participate in the Arts and Culture Focus Schools Live Workshop in Newlands on Sunday, 23 March 2014.

The workshop will be hosted by the national Department of Arts and Culture and ESP Afrika, producers of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF). The event is supported by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport.

The schools are Chris Hani High, Christel House Academy, South Peninsula High, Heathfield High, Belhar High, Settlers High, Wynberg Senior Secondary and Groote Schuur High. The event will feature performances by the Schools All Star Superband, the Cape Music Institute, the Intyholo Jazz Development Project and Top Dog featuring Camillo Lombard and music director Donveno Prins.

Arts and culture focus schools workshops have embraced 10 schools this year with more than 200 learners participating. Over a six-week period, participants have learned what it takes to put on a multi-stage live music event such as the CTIJF.

In addition to great entertainment, the workshop will celebrate the sharing of music and the transfer of skills to young people who may become the stars of the future.
