Boxing Puts its Best Foot Forward

10 September 2013

Western Cape stakeholders made their contribution to reviving the fortunes of boxing at a provincial indaba in Athlone on 6 September 2013. The meeting was attended by boxing veterans and representatives of Boxing South Africa (BSA) and the South African Nation Boxing Organisation (SANABO) in preparation for a national indaba to be held in Johannesburg from 26 to 28 September.

Professor Paul Singh of Sports and Recreation South Africa urged delegates, both amateur and professional, to put their differences aside. He said the sport must be promoted all the way up from school level. The change the sport needs must come from boxers themselves and their supporters.

Mr Thabo Tutu of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport said he was gratified that the Western Cape had responded so positively to the call by national Minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula to help make boxing a more popular sport in South Africa.
