Cape Town Welcomes Thousands at Corporate Games

7 June 2013

Winners of the 2012 Western Cape Government’s Better Together Games and representatives from over 40 organisations are participating in a selection of fun sporting activities at the second annual Cape Town Corporate Games from 7–9 June 2013.

The first Corporate Games were held in San Francisco in 1988 and similar events have taken place in over 160 countries so far. The appeal of these multi-sport events is easy to see. They bring together employees with a range of abilities from government and other organisations through sport, promoting business and tourism in the process. This encourages healthier lifestyles through fitness and promotes team spirit in and out of the workplace.

The official host of the Cape Town event is the V&A Waterfront, although the various sporting activities are taking place across several venues. This will be the first time that South African government institutions are participating.

The festival kicked off already but the opening celebration, which includes a “Grand Parade” of athletes, will take place on Saturday morning. Registration for the Games is closed, but spectators are more than welcome to come and show their support by flying their corporate banners and challenging one another in many different sports, better together.
