Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, has welcomed the progress made by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the robbery, arson and murder case in which two people died in the Karoo town of Murraysburg this week.
“The horrible events in Murraysburg, which claimed the lives of the town butcher, Pieter Retief, and one of the alleged robbers, have shocked the nation. Mrs Christyl Retief survived the attack. I commend the Murraysburg SAPS, whom I visited at the local police station last week, on good work so far under trying circumstances. I will be monitoring progress closely. I extend my deepest condolences to the family, and the whole community of Murraysburg, at this time of mourning,” Minister Marais said.
