Minister Plato hosts community safety meeting in Delft

1 September 2016

Tonight, Thursday 1 September 2016, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, will host a safety meeting in Delft.

Minister Plato has received numerous complaints over recent weeks regarding general safety in Delft with increased reporting of gang and drug related crime and shootings.

Various stakeholders have been invited to the meeting tonight, including the local police, Community Policing Forum (CPF), Neighbourhood Watch, local councillors, religious leaders and community leaders, to listen to the various grievances and to try and identify the root causes for a situation which can never be accepted as normal.

Safety is everyone’s responsibility. If existing safety structures are not working optimally or effectively, or if serious problems exist with current law enforcement strategies, we have to collectively address these as a matter of urgency to improve the safety of the community of Delft.

Minister Plato is looking forward to constructive inputs from the community tonight which will also help inform extensive safety outreaches planned for next week in the Delft community to engage with residents on their doorsteps.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.

Note: All media are invited to attend.
