Media Alert: Education MEC to Kick off Kellogg's Health of the Nation Sport Challenge

16 September 2010

This afternoon, Western Cape Education Minister Donald Grant will be officially kicking off the Kellogg's Health of the Nation 50-Hour Sports Challenge. More than three thousand (3000) children from communities throughout the Western Capes will be participating in the event where they will partake in fifteen (15) different indoor and outdoor sporting activities.

Their challenge is to keep a ball in motion for an uninterrupted 50 hours to highlight the importance of physical activity in children's lives.

"Research has shown that healthy, physically active children learn more effectively and achieve more academically," says Donald Grant.

"Therefore, I full-heartedly support the Health of the Nation initiative that encourages children to be physically active and educates them about being healthy through a balanced diet and exercise."
