Education MEC Appeals to Matrics to Celebrate Responsibly During and After their Examinations

23 October 2010

After an eventful year, the time has now come for our Class of 2010 to write their final examinations.

We are proud of what our learners have achieved this year thus far. Their energy and enthusiasm has been phenomenal despite a difficult year for education. We ask them to continue in this spirit up to the final day of the examinations.

We urge them to remain studying throughout the exam period. It is now up to them to put aside any distractions and to use the remaining time wisely to prepare for each exam.

"Good luck and best wishes and I trust you will achieve the results you have worked so hard for."

I would also like to ask our learners to remain safe during this time. We never again want to see a repeat of the tragic events of last year.

In, November, seven of our young learners lost their lives in road accidents in just six (six) days. Another two learners died in early December. Five (5) of these learners were in Grade twelve (12).

Many of our learners will be celebrating after the completion of some of their examinations, as well as travelling to various parts of the province for "matric rage" parties.

We appeal that they celebrate responsibly, and also, to exercise extreme caution while driving. Be vigilant of other vehicles and pedestrians, ensure that you buckle up and drive responsibly.
