Media Alert: Pedestrian Safety Programme to be Launched at Ysterplaat Primary School

14 July 2013

In May, Ester Nsenga-Banza, an 11-year-old girl from Ysterplaat Primary School, was tragically killed outside her school when a taxi driver failed to stop at a pedestrian crossing.

Since then, the Western Cape Government have engaged with the school in a bid to increase road safety awareness in order to further protect learners.

On 15 July 2013, Minister Grant, together with the Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW) and Department of Community Safety, will be participating in a road safety awareness campaign outside the school.

The Minister will be handing over reflector vests, sponsored by the DTPW's "Safely Home", to the principal for learners that walk to school. Learners will be attending an information session on road safety and road safety educational materials, such as colouring books, will also be supplied to the school.

Date: 15 July 2013
Venue: Ysterplaat Primary School, 62a Koeberg Way, Ysterplaat, Brooklyn, Cape Town
