Iziko Planetarium Hosts SkySkan, a Full-Dome Immersive Extravaganza

11 September 2011

SkySkan, global leaders in digital planetarium technology, will be hosted by the Iziko Planetarium from 3 to 11 September 2011. The Iziko Planetarium and SkySkan will offer audiences the unique opportunity to experience fully immersive full-dome planetarium presentations. Multiple-projector video projections seamlessly blend together animations, images and composite environments to create a full-dome image that completely covers the hemispherical projection surface.

Audiences are transported through sight and sound on a journey through space and time. Educational, entertaining and inspiring, the shows promise to take audiences of all ages to the edge of the known universe.

Meet Tycho, a dog who doesn't just howl at the moon, but who wants to go there. Blast off on an amazing ride with Tycho and his young friends, Ruby and Michael. Learn about night and day, space travel, phases of the moon and features of the lunar surface. Take a close-up look at the sun, see Tycho play in zero gravity, witness Earth from space and watch meteors shoot across the night sky. "Tycho and the Moon" for children aged five to ten years. Show times: Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00, 12:00, 15:30 (3 to 4 September and 10 to 11 September) and Monday to Friday at 15:30.

Today's astronomer is not the lone observer of past centuries. "We are Astronomers" (teenagers and adults) reveals the global collaboration, technology and dedication required to answer the unresolved questions of the universe. Show times: Saturdays and Sundays at 14:30, 16:30 (3 to 4 September and 10 to 11 September) and Monday to Friday at 14:00.

Join a SkySkan expert for a SkySkan Digtal Sky2 demonstration and be transported on a journey through space and time as we explore the digital universe. Entertaining, educational and inspirational! Show times: Saturday and Sunday at 13:00 (3 to 4 September and 10 to 11 September).
