City Announces Vending Opportunities for World Cup

6 May 2010
The City of Cape Town has launched the application process for the one hundred and fourteen (114) vending opportunities at its four Public Viewing Areas (PVAs) and the Fan Walk.

The City's four PVAs will be situated at the Bellville Velodrome, the OR Tambo Centre in Khayelitsha, the Vygieskraal Stadium in Athlone and the Swartklip Sports Centre in Mitchells Plain. The Fan Walk runs between the Cape Town Station and the Cape Town Stadium.

"These opportunities will be offered in addition to those established for local crafters," said the City's 2010 Operations Unit Project Coordinator, Pam Naidoo. Application forms can be collected from the Athlone Civic Centre, the Bellville Civic Centre, the OR Tambo Sports Complex, the Swartklip Sports Centre or downloaded from the City's website. Applications close on Tuesday 18 May.

"The City has appointed dedicated events organisers for each PVA who will conduct the final selection to ensure adherence to safety and quality standards and a balanced choice of products," said Naidoo. Aside from the crafters, there will be three vending categories namely: food and beverages; snack vendors; and fan gear and merchandise.

There will be no additional Small, Micro and Medium-Sized Enterprise (SMME) food and beverage vending opportunities at the Grand Parade where the official FIFA Fan Fest? will operate for the duration of the tournament. This will ensure that the current traders, who will be affected by the closure of the Grand Parade, will be protected.

"All existing vendors in streets surrounding the PVAs and other markets will be able to conduct business as usual. It is important to note that no counterfeit goods and items which flout the 2010 World Cup? trademarks will be allowed anywhere across the metropole," said Naidoo.
