Metro Police Make Arrest or Drugs and Stolen City Property

18 July 2010

Metro Police high visibility patrols are beginning to pay off, as seven suspects were arrested yesterday, 15 July, for possession of narcotics and theft of City of Cape Town property.

While conducting a high visibility patrol in John Downs Road, Hanover Park, Metro Police Officers noticed three men in a motor vehicle acting suspiciously. Upon searching the suspects, the officers found and confiscated thirty two (32) units of TIK, thirty four 34 units of heroin and eighteen (18) stoppe dagga. The three suspects were arrested for possession of illegal narcotics.

Later that afternoon, Metro Police officers arrested a suspect after they spotted him cutting up metal in a park in Montague Place, Lotus River. Upon closer investigation, it was found that he was cutting up two metal drain covers belonging to the City of Cape Town. Two drain cover keys were also found in his possession. The suspect was arrested and charged with theft and malicious damage to property.

That same day, on the corner of Frans Conradie Drive and Tierberg Road in Parow, Metro Police officers arrested three suspects in a white Toyota bakkie after five City drain covers and other suspected stolen items were found in their possession. The suspects were charged with housebreaking and possession of suspected stolen goods.

"This theft and malicious damage to City property is of great concern. We urge members of the public to please assist in reporting missing property such as drain covers to the Metro Police Control Room on 021 596 1999. We will continue our high visibility patrols, particularly in residential areas, which have thus far proved highly successful," said Metro Police Deputy Chief, Yolanda Faro.
