Thirty One Suspects Arrested During Metro Police's 'Operation Razor'

The Metro Police arrested thirty one (31) suspects for various offences and issued one hundred and eight (108) traffic fines during operations conducted over the weekend.

The South African Police Services and the Metro Police started the weekend off by holding a joint operation, where nine (9) search warrants were executed on suspected drug dens operating in areas such as Bloekombos, Scottsdene and Wallacedene.

During this operation two (2) suspects were arrested for possession of illegal narcotics, whilst one person was arrested for dealing in narcotics. At one of the premises in Wallacedene, a man was arrested for intimidation when he threatened one of the members with a plastic gun.

The focus of the operation later shifted to the Scottsville and Northpine areas where another four (4) suspects were arrested and charged for being in possession of narcotics.

The following items were confiscated:

  • one (1) dagga tree
  • one (1) plastic gun (with which member was threatened)
  • eleven (11) half Mandrax tablets
  • twenty five (25) packets of TIK
  • Twenty one (21) TIK lollies
  • six (6) TIK straws
  • sixteen (16) dagga cigarettes
  • two (2) gas burners

In Mitchells Plain, fourteen (14) motorists were arrested for drunk driving and two (2) more were arrested in Salt River for the same offence.

According to Deputy Chief, Yolanda Faro, "The Metro Police had a very busy weekend as we continued with our high visibility patrols. We also conducted patrols of city beaches and arrested seven (7) people. Six (6) persons were arrested at Camps Bay beach under the City By-law that prohibits people from overnighting on the beach. A seventh (7th) person was arrested when his thumb print matched positive on the Morpho Touch machine. It was later established that he is wanted for theft."

Apart from the crime prevention operations, Metro Police officers also issued one thousand and eight (108) traffic fines at road blocks and during routine patrols in areas such as Observatory, Cape Town Station Deck, Diep River and Langa.
