Water Supply Disruption in Main Road, St James to Clovelly on Thursday

The Water and Sanitation Department will be joining the upgraded three hundred and fifteen millimetre (315mm) diameter water supply line in Main Road, St James to the existing water reticulation network on Thursday 05 August 2010. This involves shutting off the three hundred and fifteen (315 mm) diameter main water supply line to the area.

This will result in the disruption of the water supply to the area between Rhodes Cottage near Carisbrook Road in St James right through to Clovelly (between Main Road and Boyes Drive) from 08:30 until 20:30.

The areas impacted by this shutdown are:

• St James
• Kalk Bay
• Clovelly

Careful consideration was given to minimise the impact/discomfort factor as far as possible.

This is the final stage of the first phase of the three hundred and fifteen millimetre (315 mm) diameter pipeline upgrade in this area. The next phase entails the upgrade of the three hundred and fifteen millimetre (315mm) diameter pipeline to Clovelly and will be done in conjunction with the other service improvement projects currently underway along Main Road.

This project forms part of the City's pipeline replacement programme to timeously replace ageing or deteriorating infrastructure in order to ensure that drinking water of a high quality is provided to citizens.

Residents are kindly requested to store sufficient water in clean, sealed containers for domestic consumption to minimise the inconvenience.

A water tanker will be placed on standby at the St James Station should residents require any water for domestic consumption.

Residents must also ensure that their taps are closed whilst the work is in progress to eliminate the possibility of water loss or damage being incurred when the water supply and pressure is restored and nobody is at home.

The City wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused. It is imperative that we maintain our water supply infrastructure to ensure the continued supply of quality drinking water to our citizens.
