Western Cape to Host the African Karate Championships

Karate South Africa, in conjunction with various karate associations from the Boland area and Western Province, will host the 13th Senior African Karate Championships at the Bellville Velodrome from 06 to 07 August 2010.

On the eve of the championships, the City of Cape Town will host a Mayoral function to welcome various international karate dignitaries to Cape Town.

Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services, Councillor Brett Herron, will officiate.

The Union of African Karate Federation (UFAK) President, Mohamed Tahar Mesbahi and UFAK Secretary General, Mohamed Paraiso, will also attend the event.

Time: 19:00

Venue: Banqueting Hall, 5th Floor, Podium Block, Civic Centre, Cape Town

Note: All media are welcome to attend.

Thirty African countries and four hundred (400) of Africa's best karate athletes will participate in the event. The competition will run from 08:00 to 18:00. Spectators are welcome. The daily entrance fee is R20.00 per person.

This event will also serve as practice for the athletes preparing to participate in the World Karate Championships to be held in Serbia later this year.
