Media Alert: City and Partners Introduce Food Voucher Programme

14 September 2010

The City of Cape Town, in partnership with the Broccoli Project and Pick 'n Pay, will launch the highly anticipated Food Voucher Programme - an incentive for donors to give responsibly and recipients to purchase responsibly.

The vouchers are designed to substitute cash handouts to those living on the streets, and can be redeemed at any Pick 'n Pay retail store for essential basic goods, with the exception of cigarettes, alcohol or other harmful substances.

Mayoral Committee Member for Social Services, Councillor Grant Pascoe, will speak at the event along with Broccoli Project Head Marc-Anthony Zimmerman and Pick 'n Pay Transformation Director, Suzanne Ackerman-Berman.

Date: Friday 17 September

Time: 15:00 for 15:30

Venue: The Haven Shelter, 1A Mill Street, Claremont
