City to Educate Sweet Home Farm and Red Hill Residents about Fire and Hazards

8 December 2010

The City of Cape Town's Disaster Risk Management Centre is stepping up its public awareness campaign by introducing a community-based educational theatre programme in informal settlements across Cape Town.

The Disaster Risk Management team will use interactive theatre to raise awareness in communities that are at a high risk for the outbreak of fires through the 'Protect yourself against fires' campaign.

The campaign offers a range of practical tips to mitigate against fire hazards and to ensure that communities are ready for unforeseen emergencies and disaster situations.

The Disaster Risk Management team will hold two shows on 10 December 2010 to educate the communities of Sweet Home Farm in Philippi and Red Hill settlement near Simon's Town, through theatre, music, dance and audience participation.
