Guard Railing Thieves Caught in the Act by Copperheads

9 December 2010

Responding on a tip-off last night, members from the City's Copperheads apprehended two under-aged boys and two men for stripping metal guard railings on the intersection of the N2 with the R300.

The four (4), aged between thirteen (13) and twenty-one (21), all from Bishop Lavis, were caught in the act while they were stripping the metal guard railings on the R300. They had sledge hammers, a hack saw and spanners used for stripping in their possession when they were apprehended.

The Copperheads also found two (2) guard railings that they had already stripped on the back of their bakkie. The culprits were detained at the Delft South African Police Service (SAPS) on charges of theft and malicious damage to property. Their vehicle was impounded as well.

"The theft of these guard rails is a serious danger to motorists and therefore we call upon the community to be our eyes and ears in instances like these", said Neil Arendse, Head of the City's Copperheads.

The Copperheads can be contacted on 0800 222 771 with any information that can help them in their fight against this type of crime.
