The City of Cape Town has appointed Lungile Dhlamini (49) as its new Executive Director: Utility Services with immediate effect.

Dhlamini holds a BSc Civil Engineering degree (University of Cape Town) and is registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa. Since graduating from UCT in 1994, he gained extensive experience within the Utilities environment, both locally and internationally.

He has a good working history with the City of Cape Town, having first joined the City as Manager: Bulk Water Purification in August 2006, after which he then held the position Manager: Water Distribution and Sewerage Collection between July 2007 and October 2008.

In November 2008, Dhlamini was appointed as the City's Director: Water and Sanitation. He resigned in July 2009, to accept a position as Managing Director for Built Africa Energy, where he gained valuable experience in leading the company's water and power infrastructure business unit. From May this year, Dhlamini has been doing consulting work for Built Africa Energy.

Achmat Ebrahim, City Manager, welcomed Dhlamini to the City Team. "Mr Dhlamini has a proven record of performance excellence and we are confident that he will make a valuable contribution to the City as Executive Director of the important Utility Services Directorate. We wish him well in his new position," he said.
