City's Liquor Enforcement Unit Clamps Down on Illegal Shebeens in Kuils River

19 December 2010

The City of Cape Town's Liquor Enforcement Unit carried out follow-up inspections at eleven (11) shebeens in Kalkfontein and Sarepta in Kuils River on Friday 17 December 2010.

Officers issued spot fines with a total value of five thousand rand (R5 000-00) to shebeens operating without City authorisation. Six (6) shebeens voluntarily ceased trading permanently, because they feared future reprisals.

The Liquor Enforcement Unit will continue to take action against the illegal sale of liquor, especially during the festive season.
