City to Host Night Vigil for Madiba on the Grand Parade

The City of Cape Town will give residents the opportunity to gather together for a night vigil to honour the late Nelson Mandela’s life on the eve of his funeral.

The vigil will take place on the Grand Parade, starting at 18:00 on Saturday 14 December 2013.

Drummer Mapumba Cilombo will set the tone for the evening, followed by the Young Men’s Sporting Club choir and the Cape Town Tribute Band with Blackie Tempi.

Just before 20:00 popular artists Arno Carstens, Jimmy Nevis and Freshlyground will perform their tributes to Madiba.

Note to editors:

The City of Cape Town has set up a dedicated Media Centre for all accredited journalists at the City Hall on the Grand Parade in Darling Street. Members of the media are welcome to use this media centre as a base from which to work.

Media can obtain accreditation at the City Library/Drill Hall on Buitenkant Street near the City Hall, between 09:00 and 13:00 on Friday 13 December, if they have not done so already. Alternatively they can contact Priya Reddy (details below) to pick up the accreditation from 17:00 on Saturday 14 December. Once they have accreditation, they will be directed to the Media Centre in the City Hall.
