MEC De Lille Reports Back To Kuyasa on Child Care and Protection Campaign

12 December 2010

During September this year, the Western Cape Province reeled in shock when a little girl was found wandering in the bushes in Kuyasa, Khayelitsha, after having been brutally raped. Patricia De Lille, MEC for Social Development in the Western Cape visited the community, and thereafter instructed her department to investigate the child care and protection services available in the community as well as the community's knowledge thereof.

MEC De Lille will be revisiting the community of Kuyasa to share with them not only the findings of the report, but also to share with them, how the department can empower the community, to develop effective programmes aimed at caring and protecting children. "After all, caring communities protect children" says De Lille.

MEC to launch festive season school holiday programme:
The opportunity will also be used to launch the festive season school holiday programme. The Department of Social Development will be hosting interactive sessions with learners during school holidays. "I believe that after a long academic year, it is important for children to relax in a child friendly and safe environment" says De Lille.

All media are invited to attend.
