MEC Patricia De Lille Hosts Press Conference on 'Extremely Successful' 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women And Children Campaign

"Campaign must continue," says Ms De Lille

Minister of Social Development Patricia de Lille will host a press conference at 14H00 on Monday afternoon to provide a monitoring and evaluation report on the Western Cape Government's '16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children' campaign.

'We are in the process of collating the maintenance campaign information from the Western Cape Department of Social Development, the South African Police Service, the National Department of Justice and the Provincial Traffic Directorate,' Ms De Lille says.

The Minister will provide details on the following, amongst others:

  • How many maintenance defaulters were tracked down during the more than 100 roadblocks over the past 16 days
  • How many maintenance defaulters contacted the authorities to settle outstanding amounts and were then removed from the list
  • How many beneficiaries were found
  • An overall assessment of the campaign
  • The way forward

'The campaign highlighted the need for very close cooperation between the different tiers of Government and also the need to close any loopholes where they exist,' says De Lille.
