Minister Patricia De Lille and Mayor Dan Plato to Make Joint Announcement Regarding Registration of Creches

10 January 2011

Patricia de Lille, the Minister for Social Development, the Mayor of Cape Town Alderman Dan Plato and Cape Town Mayco Member for Social Development Grant Pascoe will make an important joint announcement regarding the registration of Early Childhood Development Centres, or crèches, at a press conference tomorrow afternoon.

The joint announcement is the culmination of weeks of planning between the two spheres of Government, which began shortly after the MEC and Mayor's signing of the Implementation Protocol Agreement on 11 November last year.

The provincial Department and City's plan of action to help register the hundreds of unregistered ECDs in the City will be presented to the media.

The City has been prioritised because the bulk of the more than 1000 unregistered facilities throughout the province are in Cape Town.

Members of the media are invited to attend.
