Minister De Lille Shares Her Birthday with 100-Year-Old Eerste River Resident

16 February 2011

Patricia de Lille, the Minister for Social Development in the Western Cape will this morning at 10H00 have birthday tea with 100-year old Ms Alida Lewis, who was born on the same day 40 years before her.

Ms De Lille and Ms Lewis were born on 17 February 1951 and 1911 respectively.

The two ladies will give each other a gift and reminisce about their lives.

Like the Minister, Ms Lewis can still read without glasses and does not take any chronic medication.

A home executive and domestic worker by trade, the 100-year old has 9 children, 70 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 37 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom are living.

Longevity is in the family - Ms Lewis' grandmother lived to 106, while her grandfather passed away at 108.

Ms De Lille is a little over halfway there.

Members of the media are invited to attend.
