Minister De Lille Receives Report on Dissapearance of Seven-Month-Old Macassar Baby

16 February 2011

Patricia de Lille, the Western Cape Minister for Social Development, has received the social worker report on the disappearance of a seven-month-old baby boy in Macassar, on Tuesday evening.

The Minister yesterday evening dispatched the social worker to the family home of the boy, who disappeared after his mother left him alone with her sister's foster child and went to a container shop. However, the shop was closed and she then went to another one.

"The social worker's report includes interviews with the boy's 20-year-old mother, her sister and brother-in-law," Minister de Lille says.

"The mother, who is originally from Swellendam, is understandably extremely traumatised by what has happened and I would like to make a special appeal to members of the Macassar community who saw anything suspicious on Tuesday night, to contact the police immediately," says Ms de Lille.

"It must be all of our priority to find this child and reunite him with his family."
