Community Chest Impumelelo Social Innovations Awards Ceremony

8 November 2019

On Sunday, 10 November 2019, the Minister of Social Development, Sharna Fernandez, will be delivering a keynote address at the Artscape Theatre Centre in Cape Town.

The Community Chest Impumelelo Social Innovations Awards Ceremony, will award some of South Africa’s leading NGOs with a prestigious award in service of our country. The theme will be “Building a culture of resilience and excellence in service to South Africa’s people”.

Community Chest celebrates its 91th year of service to South Africa and its citizens. Founded in 1928 by the late Anglican Bishop of Cape Town, the Rev Sydney Lavis, after whom the community of Bishop Lavis is named, it has been responsible for the distribution of over R1 billion over the last 91 years to charitable causes.

The Community Chest’s vision of a country where all individuals and families reach their human potential is based on the fundamentality of access to health, education, income-generation and community development. These four key strategic focus areas facilitate social change to inspire a citizenship that is active, engaged and impactful.

Recently Community Chest merged with another non-profit organisation, The Impumelelo Social Innovations Centre. Since its establishment in 1999, The Impumelelo Social Innovations Centre has been a leading awards programme in South Africa, rewarding excellence and innovators who find creative solutions to public problems. Impumelelo also regularly submits the work of its award winners to the UN Public Service Awards and the Dubai International Awards for Best Practice, and 23 projects have won international prestigious awards.

This event will present a great opportunity for all attendees to hear about the inspiring contributions regarding the important role the non-profit sector plays within South Africa.

The event has been arranged as follows:

Time:  16:30- 20:00
