Body of teen discovered in Bredasdorp

1 June 2015

The Western Cape Department of Social Development (DSD) is sending a team of social workers to the family of the 14-year old teenage girl whose body was discovered in Zwelitsha, Bredasdorp.

Tragically, the discovery of the body comes as we mark the beginning of national Child Protection Week. DSD will provide trauma counselling to the family, and begin the process of rendering assistance to the family at this sad time.

DSD will also liaise with the South African Police Services (SAPS), and render any required assistance in their investigation.

As we commemorate Child Protection Week, we continue to urge parents to play the greatest role in ensuring we protect and provide an enabling space for our children. The department will continue to play its part as guided by the Children’s Act of 2005, however we cannot do it alone. We will continue to build partnerships with NGOs, communities and parents.

The public is urged report any cases of child abandonment, neglect and missing children to any of our Regional Offices, or to contact our DSD Hotline on 0800 220 250. If you see something, say something! We can protect our children if we continue to work ‘Better Together’.
