International Social Workers Day

17 March 2015

As we commemorate International Social Workers Day, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank every social worker working in the Western Cape. Whether they are employed by the government, NGOs or the private sector, social workers work at the coal-face of service delivery, and contribute towards achieving our vision of creating a self-reliant society.

The Department of Social Development will continue to capacitate and develop the 777 social workers and 80 social work supervisors currently working within the department, and the 700 social workers we fund who work within our NGO partners. In addition, we will continue to support and encourage young people looking to take up social work as a profession, and are proud to have provided bursaries to 409 students currently studying at universities in the province.

I’d like to wish all social workers well, especially as we work to deliver services diligently and effectively to all residents, especially the poor, ‘Better Together’.
