Mr Z Hoosain

Mr Zakariya Hoosain has been appointed as the Head Official at the Western Cape Provincial Government: Treasury.

Mr Hoosain joined the Western Cape Provincial Treasury in December 2012 and was appointed to this position in January 2015.

He qualified as a Chartered Accountant after passing his professional exam in 2005.

Born and raised in Cape Town, after completing his articles, he joined Transnet as a client manager in group audit, servicing the port operations and rail portfolios.  Thereafter he spent a short while at PwC as a consultant before joining Mazars to head up the Governance, Risk and Control services.

It was here that he developed an appetite for the public sector as the majority of his clients were composed of public service entities. He spent a large proportion of his time advising and consulting on a range of subject matters including governance, internal audit and risk management.

He was also the Engagement Partner for various assignments conducted by Mazars on behalf of the Auditor-General of South Africa, which included national and provincial departments and municipal entities.

Zakariya has been an active member of the Public Sector Committee of the SA Institute of Chartered Accountants since 2007.
