Western Cape Hotels Garner International Acclaim

20 May 2014

Two Western Cape hotels have earned top spots in Tripadvisor’s 2014 list of “Travelers’ Choice Hotels with Exceptional Service”.

Alan Winde, Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, today visited one of the establishments on the list, the 2inn1 Kensington in Gardens, Cape Town.

The Akademie Street Boutique Hotel and Guesthouse in Franschhoek also earned a spot on the prestigious list.

Both were selected as winners based on reviews from international visitors.

One guest at the 2Inn1 Kensington wrote: No question - this hotel deserves to be rated with the best in the world!

Another was keen to return to the hotel: “I have never received better service anywhere. It was easy to see why they have so many repeat customers. We will return as often as possible!”

The boutique hotel enjoys views of Table Mountain and Lion’s Head. A renovated Victorian home, the establishment has a distinctly African feel.

Minister Winde commended both establishments for their contribution to growing tourism.

“Great service is one of the key factors in repeat visits. These establishments have set the standard for service excellence. The winners also garnered international exposure for their own establishments and for the destination as a whole. They serve as an inspiration to the industry,” said Minister Winde.

This is the latest in a string of accolades earned by the Western Cape’s tourism industry in the past year alone.

  • In January, Cape Town was ranked as the top city to visit in 2014 by the New York Times and well-respected British newspaper The Guardian;
  • The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa was voted the no.1 city hotel for the ‘World’s Best Service' in the category, ‘Top Hotels: Africa and the Middle East'. The list was published in the June 2013 issue of Travel and Leisure magazine in the United States of America;
  • Cape Town was ranked as one of the must-visit destinations in Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel – Top 10 Cities

“These awards garner international attention for our destination. I am confident they encourage more international visitors to travel here, especially given the prestige of the publications involved. In 2012, international visitors spent over R18 billion during their stays in the Western Cape. As one of our biggest employers, it’s important that we grow this sector and ensure tourists have more reasons to visit the Western Cape. Service delivery excellence must be our top priority,” said Minister Winde.
