Media Alert: Minister Plato to Host Conclusion to Nyanga Safety Summit

2 November 2012

On Saturday 3 November, Dan Plato, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, will host the conclusion to this year’s Safety Summit in Nyanga.

The Nyanga community had an opportunity earlier this year to raise their safety concerns with representatives from the criminal justice system (Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, National Prosecuting Authority, South African Police Service), Nyanga Community Policing Forum (CPF), community organisations as well as local and provincial government will be present.

Tomorrow, the community will conclude the resolutions they have determined in their working groups in line with the following key themes and discussion points of the Summit Commissions: Law Enforcement, Youth Safety, Families , Parenting & Early Childhood Development, Victim Support and gender based Violence.

The Safety Summits provide an important opportunity for the community of Nyanga to raise concerns regarding the criminal justice system and to workshop ways in which to make the community safer in line with the Western Cape Government’s “whole-of-society” approach to increasing safety.

Media are invited to attend and there will be opportunities for photos and interviews.

Note: All media are invited to attend
