Community Safety Minister, Leonard Ramatlakane praises community - police partnership in the fight against crime

Community Safety Minister, Leonard Ramatlakane has lauded the efforts of the South African Police Services following the safe recovery of a 14 year-old boy, Ashwin Calvert who went missing in Blue Downs, on Wednesday night.

"I commend the communal parenting spirit of "My Child is your Child" which drove the entire Blue Downs community into searching for the child together as a unit. This is a clear demonstration that, it is only when the police and communities work together in partnership that we can begin to make a positive impact in the fight against crime. Communities are repositories of information that can no longer be ignored by SAPS in exposing criminals in our communities", said Minister Ramatlakane.

Ashwin was found unharmed in Mitchell's Plain earlier this afternoon, and is being kept at the Kuilsriver Police Station where he will be re-united with his parents and family.
