MEC Max Congratulates Provincial Traffic Officers on Outstanding Achievements

The MEC for Community Safety, Adv. Lennit Max today invited the three Provincial Traffic Officers who received certificates for outstanding work during the Road Traffic and Management Cooperation (RTMC) Gala Awards ceremony on Thursday , 27 August 2009 in the CTICC.

Max extended his appreciation to the recipients for excellence in their place of work.

He said: "I am very proud to meet our achievers in different categories in my office today. I was, as Provincial Commissioner, also in uniform and know what it means to give your best with pride and passion. These winners competed with the rest of the country and they exit as winners in their category. It shows that Traffic Western Cape has set a standard by which they work and only improve upon. May these achievements of these fine officers be an inspiration to their fellow officers."

He said that Officer Ellenor Marais, from the Swellendam Inspectorate and co-winner for Most Promising New Officer have shown through her achievement, that she, as a woman, does not have to stand back for her male counterparts and that a bright future in Traffic beckons her.

According to Max, Dieter Smit's (Senior Training Practitioner at Gene Louw College) who was runner-up for Best Education and Training Development (ETD) Practitioner showed that Provincial Traffic is doing outstanding work in training officers and equipping them with the necessary skills.

He added that Mr. Xenophone Wentzel (Senior Provincial Inspector at Metro) who was runner-up for Going the Extra Mile award is an inspiration to all his peers for this kind of passion, energy and commitment.

Max also congratulated their commanders and managers who, through diligence and discipline helped to develop these winners.

He thanked Traffic Management for a successful conference, in which they have demonstrated that a conference of such international scale can be hosted in Cape Town.

"It is these sterling achievements and progress that excites me as the MEC whose mandate is to see that the people of the Western Cape are safe, in their work, home, but also on the roads," he concluded.
