Fifty Six Drivers Arrested Over Weekend for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

31 July 2010

Provincial Traffic Services had several "Safely Home" roadblocks during the past weekend. The focus areas of these "Safely Home" roadblocks were, to monitor drivers driving under the influence.

At these operations one thousand and fifty six (1056) drivers were screened for possible alcohol use while driving. Provincial Traffic officials arrested in total fifty six (56) drivers for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, the arrests were fourteen (14) more drivers than the previous weekend. This is a clear indication of our dedication to rid the roads of drunk drivers. We arrested a motorist for car theft, and another motorist for overloading a goods vehicle. In other operations we caught two (2) motorists for excessive speeding in a hundred and twenty kilometre (120km/h) zone, one hundred and ninety five kilometres (195km/h) and one hundred and seventy nine kilometres (179km/h) respectively.

Provincial Traffic Law Enforcement wants to send out a clear message that lawlessness will not be tolerated on any public road in this Province and transgressors can expect these operations to continue till there are no more drunk drivers on our roads.
Every driver, passenger and pedestrian using a public road should do so in a responsible manner; obey the rules of the road and the traffic signs. Keep to the speed limit and use the road as if your fellow road users are your loved ones.

Note: Please act responsibly so everybody can arrive "Safely Home."
