Minister Allen conducts first patrol with Tafelsig Neighbourhood Watch

6 May 2022

This past Wednesday evening, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety and Police Oversight, Reagen Allen, conducted his first patrol with the Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) in the Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain area.

Minister Allen was accompanied by the Ward Councillor, Norman Adonis, along with more than 100 members from the Tafelsig East Sub Forum and NHW, the Hyde Park Sub Forum and NHW and representatives from the Mitchells Plain Community Police Forum.

Minister Allen said: “I’d like to commend every single member of the neighbourhood watches and sub forums for their commitment and diligence in seeking to ensure that their community becomes a safe space for everyone. I’m grateful for the work these volunteers are doing, and for allowing me to accompany them on their patrol. These men and women could be busy with various things, yet they choose to combat crime in this manner, so that community members do not have to live in fear.”

“This patrol is the first of the 30 I committed to with neighbourhood watches, and I cannot wait to get to other communities. I aim to conduct patrols across the Western Cape, as this will assist in obtaining a true picture of how our brave volunteers are curbing crime in their communities. We will only be able to overcome crime if all stakeholders, which includes the different spheres of Government, the private sector and civil society at large work and stand together as one,” added Minister Allen.

Minister Allen concluded: “I want to assure our amazing crime fighters in the 441 accredited neighbourhood watches across the province that through my department, we will continue with our full support, as just as them, we want to see our residents live without fear and in dignity.”
