#LetsDoThis:

On 09 May 2021, the Minister of Community Safety, Albert Fritz, called on all councillors to join the neighbourhood watches and community policing forums in their areas in a door-to-door campaign to bring awareness and encourage eligible people to register for the Covid-19 vaccine.

Minister’s Frtiz’s call is in line with various planned activities in the build-up towards 17 May 2021, when the second phase of the vaccination programme will be launched in the Western Cape. The vaccines will provide protection against severe Covid-19 illness and death. The programme will start with residents who are 60 years and older.

Minister Fritz said, “Neighbourhood watches and community policing forums are a powerful tool which we can collectively leverage as we build strong, resilient communities. I would like to invite all our members, along with their councillors, to be at the forefront of this battle in the war against Covid-19. Let’s do this! Let’s take this message of hope to our people. The vaccine is safe. The vaccine is effective. Nobody can force anybody to do anything, but let’s encourage eligible citizens to register and get the jab!”

Councillors, neighbourhood watch and CPF members are encouraged to organize groups of people to go from door-to-door in their communities to spread the message that the vaccine is safe and to encourage eligible citizens to register.

Minister Fritz continued, “of course, an important part of the fight against Covid-19 are the existing protocols in place, so when we go door-to-door, let’s remember social distancing; wear your masks; if possible, have a bottle of sanitizer with you. Don’t go into people’s homes – it’s best to stand outside in the fresh air and speak to your neighbours.”

As part of his call, Minister Fritz is planning to join different communities on different evenings in the build-up to 17 May 2021.

Minister Fritz concluded, “The vaccination programme is something we can all get excited about. Let’s spread the message: the vaccine is safe and effective. Let’s encourage eligible citizens to register. Let’s do this!
