Minister Fritz condemns shooting of police officer in Harare

18 September 2020

The Minister of Community Safety, Albert Fritz, unequivocally condemns the shooting and killing of Sergeant Thabile Mapoma (43) who was off-duty when he was killed. Sergeant Mapoma was shot while sitting in his car in his driveway in Cula Street, Harare, on Thursday morning.

Minister Fritz further calls on members of the community who might have information on this case to immediately come forward and report such to SAPS to assist them in their investigation.

Minister Fritz said, “I condemn the shooting of Sergeant Mapoma in the strongest terms. It is a tremendous loss for this province that Sergeant Mapoma, who had served SAPS for 19 years and who was stationed at the Harare Police Station in Khayelitsha, has been killed. I wish to commend and commemorate him on his significant service to the province.”

Minister Fritz added, “Sergeant Mapoma leaves behind a wife and four children. I further wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to his family on his loss. No child should have to grow up without a father.”

Minister Fritz continued, “I have been informed that SAPS are investigating the matter and call anyone with information that could assist SAPS to immediately come forward either by visiting your local SAPS, calling Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or using the tip off function on the MySAPS application.”
