20 000 masks donated to traffic officers, frontline workers
Today, the Minister of Community Safety, Albert Fritz, received 20 000 disposable face masks from Representatives of the Condere Group. The masks will be distributed to traffic officials, Neighbourhood Watches, Chrysalis graduate peace officers, EPWP volunteers and others serving on the frontline within the Western Cape’s COVID-19 targeted hotspot areas. Photos included.
The handover was attended by the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Bonginkosi Madikizela, and Traffic Chief Kenny Africa who received 5000 of the masks on behalf of traffic officials deployed in targeted COVID-19 hotspot areas.
Minister Fritz said, “I wish to thank Condere group on their generous donation of 20 000 disposable masks that will be used as personal protective equipment by numerous officials serving on the front line. This contribution will go a long way in supporting the Western Cape Government in its response within its targeted COVID-19 hotspot areas.”
The Western Cape Government cabinet adopted a Whole of Government targeted hotspot plan to tackle the spread of Covid-19 in high population areas, where high transmission rates have been recorded. It aims to change individual and community behavior to slow the spread of the virus and save lives in areas that go beyond districts and even sub-districts. This is done in partnership with all spheres of government.
Minister Fritz added, “It is essential that we continue to adhere to the five golden rules of hygiene in our efforts to stop the spread. Each of us has a role to play in ensuring that we protect ourselves and our loved ones through measures including staying at home if you can, social distancing, wearing a mask and washing your hands regularly.”
