Minister Fritz commends women in NHWs and CPFs
PRESS RELEASE BY ALBERT FRITZ
WESTERN CAPE MINISTER OF COMMUNITY SAFETY
Date: 8 August 2019
Minister Fritz Commends Women in NHWs and CPFs
This women's day, the Minister of Community Safety, Albert Fritz, commends all women who are Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) volunteers and elected Community Policing Forum (CPF) members. Minister Fritz has commended these volunteers and members for being at the forefront in the fight against crime and gangsterism.
The Department of Community Safety will be hosting two high tea ceremonies in Tulbagh, Friday 9 August, and Mitchells Plain, Friday 16 August, to thank women in CPFs and NHWs for making their communities safer.
Minister Fritz said, "Women make up a significant number of the NHW volunteers and CPF members. For instance, the Delft NHW cluster, which consists of 18 accredited NHW structures, is led and assisted almost entirely by women. In our most gang-ravaged communities, it is commonplace to see women at the forefront in the fight against crime and gangsterism. I thank them for their bravery and compassion."
Minister Fritz further added, "Recently I attended a community meeting in Hanover Park where I met the NHW volunteers, all of whom were women. These women are role models to younger women as they actively play their part to make the province safer. It was reassuring to see that the sisters, aunties, mothers and grandmothers of the community are standing up together and saying NO! to crime and gangsterism."
Under the leadership of Minister Albert Fritz, the Department of Community Safety remains committed to using every tool at its disposal and working with each safety stakeholder to safeguard the province.
