Media Alert: MEC Winde to visit Steenberg Police Station and Lavender Hill Base

Tomorrow, Thursday 15 November, Minister Alan Winde will conduct an oversight visit to the Steenberg police station and the Lavender Hill Base Camp.

A core function of the department is to promote professional policing through effective oversight. Minister Winde has committed to strengthening the Department’s working relationship with SAPS, in order to make this the safest province in the country.

Crime is exacerbated across the Western Cape, as 85% of the province’s police stations are understaffed. The Steenberg police station has a police-to-population ratio of one officer to every 533 residents, compared to the national average of 1:369.

There will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
