MEDIA ALERT: Minister Plato hosts Elsies River and Bishop Lavis safety workshop

Tomorrow, Saturday 30 June 2018, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, and the Department of Community Safety will host a safety workshop for the communities of Elsies River and Bishop Lavis.

The safety workshop aims to not only document safety concerns and safety related complaints but also serves to bring various governmental stakeholders closer to the communities they serve according to the Department of Community Safety’s whole-of-society approach to help improve safety.

The workshops, which has been held since April this year in Western Cape communities such as Avian Park (Worcester), Hanover Park, Ocean View, Atlantis and Kraaifontein, also provides an opportunity to concerned residents to brainstorm collective interventions and solutions with representatives from different government spheres and departments.

Safety is everyone’s responsibility and through the workshops, Minister Plato and the Department of Community Safety brings together residents; municipal representatives; the police; government departments including Social Development, Education, Health, Justice and Constitutional Development, Correctional Services, Cultural Affairs and Sport; the religious fraternity; and existing safety structures such as Neighbourhood Watches, Community Policing Forums and Walking Busses to address the issues affecting our communities with our communities.

Additional workshops are already planned for the next two months to take place in Nyanga, Delft, Khayelitsha and Lavender Hill and Minister Plato encourages residents to use the opportunity to help highlight concerns and share solutions to help improve safety in our communities.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
