Watching Briefs Receives Commendation Honour At Impumelelo Awards

4 November 2017

The Court Watching briefs initiative walked away with the distinguished certificate of Commendation, in recognition of its good work, at this year’s 17th annual Impumelelo Awards ceremony. The ceremony was held in conjunction with the Distell Development Trust on Saturday, 4 November 2017 at the Artscape Opera House.

The awards acknowledge the hard work of individuals and organisations that make it their mission to improve the lives of South Africans. After a strict evaluation process, 65 applicants were shortlisted for the various awards.

The Watching Briefs initiative was implemented by the Department of Community Safety to monitor police conduct and report inefficiencies.

The members of the Watching Briefs unit attend court hearings to detect possible inefficiencies of the police, compile a report and submit it to the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Advocate Zaiboonisa Khan, accepted the award on behalf of the unit, after she delivered a presentation on the successful work of the Watching Briefs on 10 August 2017.
