MEDIA ALERT: Weekend Safety Outreaches – Minister Plato takes youth dialogue to Elsies River, marches against abuse in Strandfontein and attends prayer meeting against violence in Langa

This weekend, Friday 9 June 2017 – Sunday 11 June 2017, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, will conduct various safety related events across the City of Cape Town.

This evening, Friday 9 June 2017, Minister Plato On Saturday, 18 June 2016, Minister Plato will conduct an oversight walkabout with the Helderberg Neighbourhood (NHW), highlighting the role each community member can play to launch visible crime prevention strategies in their neighbourhoods and to help create safer communities.

On Saturday, 10 June 2017, Minister Plato and the Department of Community Safety will be hosting a Youth Dialogue event as part of the Departmental Youth Month observations under the theme: “Youth, Life Counts!”.

The Youth Dialogue will see the youth from the broader Elsies River, including Clarke Estate, Leonsdale, Bishop Lavis, Valhalla Park, Kalksteenfontein, The Range, Matroosfontein, Uitsig, Eureka and Ravensmead, engage on topics, solutions and opportunities relating to their concerns of safety and violence. The Department of Community Safety will be joined by various religious leaders and organisations, non-governmental organisations as well as representatives of the South African Police Service (SAPS), South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) and the Department of Correctional Services.

On Sunday, 11 June 2017, Minister Plato will be joining the “1000 Real Men March Against Abuse” in Strandfontein, as well as a prayer meeting in Langa in support of the community uniting against the violence against women and children.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
