Minister Plato attends Eden cluster PNP consultation session

12 July 2016

Today, Tuesday 12 July 2016, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety will attend the Policing Needs and Priorities (PNP) consultation session for the Eden policing clusters in George.

The Southern Cape leg of the PNP consultation sessions bring about the halfway mark for the 2016 Policing Needs and Priorities process in the province which will see the Department of Community Safety holding public consultation sessions for each of the 16 police clusters between May and October this year.

A key feature of the 2016/17 PNP process will be the extensive training provided to Neighbourhood Watches and Community Policing Forums – the pulse of citizen-led safety interventions in our communities.

Later this afternoon, Minister Plato will be officially handing over a Safety Kiosk to the Bitou Municipality in Plettenberg Bay.

The PNP engagement takes the format of a two-day consultative workshop and will include representatives of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Municipalities, Community Police Forums (CPFs), Community Safety Forums (CSF), non-governmental organisations, community based organisations, faith based organisations, Neighbourhood Watches (NHW), and other local safety stakeholders.

The Eden PNP consultation session includes the communities of Calitzdorp, Conville, De Rust, Dysselsdorp, George, Knysna, Kwanokuthula, Ladismith, Oudtshoorn, Pacaltsdorp, Plettenberg Bay, Thembalethu and Uniondale.

Additional information on the PNP process, schedule of consultation sessions and past reports are available here: https://www.westerncape.gov.za/general-publication/policing-needs-and-priorities-western-cape

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
