Minister Plato hosts Safety Summit in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain

Tomorrow, Saturday 21 May 2016, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, will host a Safety Summit in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain.

The Safety Summit will bring together school principals, religious-, organisational- and community leaders from different suburbs which are faced with similar safety concerns. The areas include the entire Mitchells Plain as well as Lavender Hill, Retreat, Elsies River, Belhar, Delft, Wesbank, Scottsdene, Kraaifontein, Manenberg, Heideveld, Hanover Park, Nyanga, Gugulethu, Lower Crossroads, Philippi, Khayelitsha, Blue Downs, Mfuleni and Eerste River.

The Department of Community Safety will be joined by other safety partners tomorrow including the South African Police Service (SAPS), the Community Police Forums (CPFs), Neighbourhood Watches (NHWs), as well as the Western Cape Departments of Education, Social Development and Cultural Affairs and Sport.

The Safety Summit aims to discuss and deliberate on the safety issues which communities from across priority areas in the Cape Town Metropole are confronted with on a daily basis in order to strengthen existing strategic partnerships and consider new possible partnerships to help create safer environments in areas where gangsterism, drug and alcohol abuse as well as illegal guns are rife.
