Today, 1 July 2015, Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, Minister of Transport and Public Works, Donald Grant, and Metrorail Regional Manager, Richard Walker, will conduct an oversight visit to a pilot safety project being implemented at the Parow Train Station.
As part of the larger ‘Safety Partnership’ launched in April 2015, the Department of Community Safety has assisted the Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District (VRCID) which has a particular focus to enhance the safety of commuters at the Bellville and Parow transport interchanges.
As part of the agreement with the VRCID, and in partnership with Metrorail, the Department of Community Safety can deploy additional highly visible safety personnel as a force multiplier to assist existing security and law enforcement officers on trains and train stations in the Western Cape.
The oversight visit at the Parow station aims to highlight the progress of the pilot project and to strengthen ties between all role-players involved towards greater commuter safety in the province.
Note: All media are invited and welcome to attend.
