Condolences to Families of Police Officers Killed on Duty

17 October 2013
Statement by Dan Plato, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety

I condemn the latest attack on police officers in the Western Cape.

These police officers were killed while in the line of duty. We simply cannot tolerate this kind of senseless violence in our democracy.

I would like to appeal to the community to work with the police and support them. The police are putting their lives on the line to keep us safe, and should be respected. I would also like to congratulate the police for the quick arrest that they have made. Criminals must know that their crimes will not go unpunished.

I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of these officers, and will be visiting the families of the officers to convey my condolences in person and offer the support of the Western Cape Government.
