Minister Marais welcomes the re-opening of Archives and Record Service

31 August 2020

Following the President’s address and the Alert Level 2 Regulations gazetted by the Department of Co-operative Governance, provided that all mandatory health protocols are in place, the National Department has now granted permission for the Western Cape Archives and Record Services to reopen tomorrow, 1 September 2020.

The permission was granted based on all the required information provided in our provincial application form and the documents submitted with regards to safety measures as follows:

  • Risk Assessment and Response Plan
  • Venue/Visitor Safety Guidelines
  • Employee Safety Guidelines and
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements

Minister Marais said, “We are excited to reopen the Western Cape Archives and Record Services tomorrow as the demand for archives and records management services has significantly increased as there is a heightened awareness about human rights and the role of archives in this regard. The technological revolution has placed more demands, inclusive of the need for the digitisation of archival records and the implementation of archives and records management systems. As the leading Archives and Record Services in South Africa, we are happy to welcome the public back to our premises in Roeland Street as we can now safely explore the best the Western Cape has to offer.
