Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a mountain rescue which started on Tuesday night, 13 December 2011.

Tuesday, 13 December 2011 at 21:30 - EMS was alerted by a friend of an experienced 74 year old male Caver that appeared to be missing. According to the caller, the Caver's car was parked near Constantia Neck. EMS dispatched a team of thirty (30) rescuers because of the huge amount of caves in the Wynberg Cave area. An hour ago the rescue team found two (2) bags of the missing Cavers outside of the Giant Extension Cave (back of Table Mountain) but are still unsure of the amount of Cavers in the missing group.

The team of thirty (30) rescuers is comprised of a logistical communications team and technical team made up of EMS Rescue Technicians, and Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR) rangers (a team of specialist Climbers, Cavers and experienced Searchers).

At 10:19 on Wednesday, 14 December 2011, it was reported that the team of missing cavers have been found.According to the Incident Commander of the Rescue Team, the two missing Cavers were found safe and at home, unharmed. They were unaware that there was a rescue team searching for them.
